Not every problem needs the same kind of help.
Some people want time and space to explore their history in depth.
Others already know the specific problem they want to change and are looking for a more focused way of working with it.
Direct Change Work is designed for that second situation.
The Starting Point Is A Specific Change
The work begins with what is happening now and what you would like to be different.
The focus might be a repeating reaction, a fear, a confidence problem, an avoidance pattern, a decision difficulty or another clearly recognised obstacle.
Rather than assuming that every issue requires months of open-ended discussion, we look at what may be maintaining that particular problem.
Talking Still Has A Purpose
Focused work does not mean that nothing is discussed.
We need enough information to understand the problem, the situations in which it appears, what you want instead and what may be keeping the current response in place.
The difference is that conversation is used in service of a defined change target rather than becoming the only activity.
What Direct Change Work Looks For
Depending on the problem, we may explore patterns involving:
- how you are perceiving yourself or the situation;
- the thoughts and expectations that appear automatically;
- the sequence that leads to a repeated decision or behaviour;
- what makes avoidance, hesitation or another response feel compelling;
- what would need to change for a different response to become available.
The work remains specific to the problem you bring. It is not a promise that every difficulty can or should be resolved quickly.
When A Different Kind Of Support May Be Better
Some problems are complex, ongoing or connected with circumstances that need broader or longer-term support.
If the issue falls outside the scope of focused Direct Change Work, that should be recognised rather than forced into the method.
The aim is appropriate change work, not speed for its own sake.
A Focused Alternative
You can read more about the approach on the Direct Change Work page.
If you already have a specific problem in mind, the first task is to define what you want to be different and whether the issue is suitable for focused work.
Choose How You Would Like To Begin
If you are ready to work directly on a specific problem, you can begin with a one-to-one Direct Change Work session.
If you are unsure whether the approach fits your situation, you can learn more through a Clarity Call.
The question is not whether every problem can be changed without months of talking. It is whether your specific problem is one that can be approached effectively through focused change work.
