1. Help With Fears And Phobias

Help With Fears And Phobias

A fear can begin as a protective response.

Something feels dangerous.

Your body reacts.

Your attention narrows.

You prepare to escape, avoid or freeze.

Sometimes that response continues long after the original danger has passed.

You may know the fear is irrational.

You may understand that the situation is safe.

Yet the reaction still appears.

Help with fears and phobias begins by recognising that the response is real, even when the danger is not.

When Fear Takes Over

A phobic response can happen quickly.

Your body may react before you have time to think.

Your heart may race.

Your breathing may change.

Your muscles may tighten.

You may feel trapped.

You may want to escape.

Or you may avoid the situation completely.

This does not mean you are weak.

It means an automatic protective response has become linked to a particular situation, object or experience.

Knowing It Is Safe May Not Be Enough

People often try to reason themselves out of fear.

They remind themselves that flying is safe.

That the spider cannot harm them.

That speaking in front of people is not dangerous.

That the lift is secure.

That driving is something they have done before.

This can help intellectually.

But the fear response may continue because it is not being generated by conscious reasoning alone.

The body and mind may still be responding as though danger is present.

Fears And Phobias People Bring

People seek help with many different fears and phobias.

Fear of flying.

Fear of driving.

Fear of motorways.

Fear of lifts.

Fear of enclosed spaces.

Fear of heights.

Fear of needles.

Fear of dentists.

Fear of dogs.

Fear of spiders.

Fear of public speaking.

Fear of being judged.

Fear of losing control.

Or a fear connected to one specific situation.

The trigger may differ.

The internal response often has a similar protective structure.

Avoidance Can Keep The Fear In Place

Avoidance can bring immediate relief.

You cancel the flight.

Take the stairs.

Avoid the road.

Decline the invitation.

Stay away from the situation.

For a moment, the anxiety reduces.

But the mind may learn that avoidance kept you safe.

This can strengthen the fear.

The situation remains untested.

The protective response remains in place.

And your life may gradually become organised around what you are trying to avoid.

You Do Not Need To Be Forced To Face It

Help with fears and phobias does not need to begin by pushing you into the feared situation.

You do not need to prove your courage.

You do not need to be overwhelmed.

You do not need to relive the worst moment repeatedly.

The work can begin by understanding how the fear is represented and maintained internally.

The aim is to change the response, not to force you through it.

How Direct Change Work Can Help

Direct Change Work focuses on the internal structure of the fear.

We look at what triggers the response.

How the fear develops.

What images, sensations, expectations or meanings are involved.

And what keeps the reaction in place.

The work may draw on NLP.

Conversational hypnosis.

Focused questioning.

Imagery.

Reframing.

And other practical change methods.

These are tools.

The purpose is to help the mind and body respond differently to something that no longer needs the same level of protection.

What Happens In A Session

We begin by clarifying the fear.

We look at when it happens.

What tends to trigger it.

What you experience internally.

And what you would like to be able to do instead.

You remain aware and involved throughout the session.

You do not lose control.

You are not forced to face the feared situation.

The process is adapted to you and to the particular fear you have brought.

Change Does Not Mean Becoming Reckless

The purpose is not to remove appropriate caution.

Some situations require care.

Healthy fear can protect you.

The aim is to reduce or resolve a response that has become disproportionate, automatic or restrictive.

You can remain sensible without being controlled by fear.

Is This Work Right For Every Fear?

Direct Change Work may be suitable when the fear is specific and clearly identifiable.

It may be less appropriate when the fear is connected to an immediate crisis.

A serious medical condition.

Ongoing trauma symptoms.

Or a need for specialist clinical support.

If the issue appears to fall outside the scope of this work, I will say so.

The purpose is to identify an appropriate next step rather than force every fear into the same approach.

In-Person And Online Sessions

Help with fears and phobias is available through in-person Direct Change Work sessions in London.

Online sessions are also available across the UK and internationally.

Many fears can be worked with effectively without being physically present with the trigger.

You can begin with a Clarity Call before deciding whether to book a full session.

Recognition. Resolution. Move Forward.

Recognition begins when you notice how much the fear is shaping your choices.

Resolution begins when the internal response that keeps it in place starts to change.

Movement becomes possible when you can approach life without organising it around the same fear.

You do not need to keep proving that you can live with it.

It may be time to work with it directly.

Book A Clarity Call

A Clarity Call gives you an opportunity to talk through the fear or phobia you want to address.

We can look at what is happening.

Consider whether Direct Change Work may be appropriate.

And identify what the next step might be.

There is no pressure to book a full session.

The purpose of the call is clarity.
