You have probably asked yourself this question more than once.
You may have promised yourself that this time would be different.
You have read books.
Listened to podcasts.
Watched videos.
Made plans.
Started again.
For a while, something may even have changed.
Then the familiar problem returned.
If you searched for “Why Haven’t I Changed This Yet?”, you have already recognised something important.
You know this has been with you for a while.
You know you have genuinely tried to change it.
You are not looking for another quick fix.
You are trying to understand why lasting change has been so difficult.
You are in the right place.
Wanting Change Isn’t Always Enough
Many people believe that if they wanted something badly enough, they would simply change.
Life is rarely that simple.
You can genuinely want something to be different.
You can understand why it needs to change.
You can know exactly what you intend to do.
You can even begin moving in a new direction.
Then something seems to pull you back towards familiar ground.
That does not necessarily mean you did not want the change enough.
It does not necessarily mean you lacked commitment.
It may mean that wanting change and being able to sustain it are not always the same thing.
You Can See The Pattern
You may already know when the problem is likely to appear.
You may recognise the situations that bring it back.
You may know what you usually think.
What you usually feel.
And what you usually do next.
Perhaps you have watched the pattern unfold so many times that you can almost predict the ending.
You tell yourself that you will respond differently.
You mean it.
Yet when the moment arrives, the familiar response returns.
Afterwards, you may wonder why knowing what was happening was not enough to stop it.
Sometimes The Pattern Arrives Before You Do
Sometimes the pattern feels almost as though it arrives before you do.
You tell yourself that this time will be different.
Then, almost without noticing, you find yourself making the same decision.
Saying the same thing.
Avoiding the same conversation.
Or giving up at exactly the same point.
Afterwards, it can feel confusing.
You genuinely wanted something different.
Yet somehow the familiar pattern returned.
That does not necessarily mean you lack motivation.
It may simply mean the pattern has become stronger than the intention to change.
Repeated Attempts Can Become Exhausting
Each new attempt may begin with hope.
You make another plan.
Set another deadline.
Create another rule.
Promise yourself that this time you will follow through.
For a while, you may feel encouraged.
Then the old behaviour, feeling or reaction begins to return.
That can leave you questioning yourself.
You may wonder whether you are weak.
Undisciplined.
Or somehow incapable of changing.
But returning to the same pattern does not necessarily mean that you failed.
It may mean that conscious effort has been trying to change the visible behaviour while the obstacle maintaining it has remained in place.

Direct Change Work for Repeating Patterns
Direct Change Work focuses on one specific problem, repeating pattern or internal block.
Rather than trying to change everything about you, we focus on the particular issue that keeps preventing lasting movement.
That issue may involve an automatic emotional response.
A limiting belief.
A fear connected with changing.
A familiar behaviour.
Or a way of responding that appears before you have had time to choose differently.
You may already understand the problem.
You may already know what you want to change.
The difficulty may be that the response keeping the pattern in place happens automatically.
The aim is not to tell you to try harder.
The aim is to work with the specific internal obstacle that may be making lasting change difficult.
As that obstacle begins to loosen, you may become freer to respond in the way you already want to.
